Robert Lewis Reid
Robert Lewis Reid(American, 1862 - 1929)

Robert Lewis Reid infused American Impressionism with a distinct decorative flair, turning everyday encounters into harmonious visual poems. After studying in Boston and Paris, he settled in New York, where he co-founded the rebellious exhibition collective known as the Ten American Painters. He boldly turned away from standard academy constraints to explore the pure, vibrant play of outdoor light.

His canvases focused almost exclusively on a single theme: elegant young women enveloped by lush fields of flowers. He treated these subjects with a luminous high-key palette, soft pastels, and loose, shimmering brushstrokes that merged figures and nature onto a single, dynamic plane.

An incredibly versatile creator, he successfully translated his bright, decorative style into monumental public murals for the Library of Congress and grand world expositions.
